EY & Y1 sports day
Our youngest students finally got the chance to put their athletic ‘superpowers’ to the test on Monday morning in their Superhero-themed Sports Day. We had more than one Batman and Wonderwoman in attendance, together with all the students from Early Years and Year 1 in their house colours ready to take on 6 special missions and showcase some of the many skills they have been developing over the course of the year.
Some of the missions required students to catch either Batman villains or Pokemon demonstrating their growing confidence with their underarm and overarm throws. On the ‘Ultraman’ flight, our little superheroes had to safely navigate their way across the lava field to save our ĢƵ Yeti before leaping from the top of the building to land safely back on the ground.
There were lots of excited screams when our Captain Marvel super shield was brought out and the meteorites started raining down, causing the students to either deflect the meteorites or take shelter under the shield. Finally, what better way to celebrate our superheroes saving the day, then with a massive dance off with both our superheroes and their biggest fans! It was a lovely end to a SUPER morning of challenges seeing staff, students and supporters all UNITE as we so often see from our wonderful ĢƵ community.
A huge thank you to everyone who came down to support our Superhero Sports Day and we hope you were as impressed with their skills, resilience and teamwork as their PE teachers were.

Eco Committee Elections
This week we have been holding the democratic elections for the Eco Committee.
We posed questions to the students in different year groups and then the year groups held elections where they voted for the person who answered the question most effectively. The successful candidates will now be representing their year group as we improve the Eco Status of ĢƵ.
The questions were asked by the Eco Ambassadors:
Dani & Finn & Karunesh asked the Y1 students; ‘What can you do to be Eco Friendly?’
Mayvi, Naavya, Maira asked Y2 ‘What should you do at home to be Eco friendly?’
Mayukh & Praksham asked Y3 ‘How can you reduce waste?’
Fatima & Alliana asked the Y4s ‘How can we support others to be Eco Friendly?’
Laksh, Romeo & Amod posed the question: ‘What are the main things at school which are not Eco Friendly?’ to the Year 5s.
Ayan, Satvik & Jay asked Y6; ‘What do you think you should do to make ĢƵ more sustainable?’
The candidates then had a day to prepare and presented their ideas to the rest of the year group.
The successful candidates were:
Y1 had a very close result, but Falih 1M was the successful candidate.
Y2 elected Esna 2M as their representative for the Eco Committee.
In Y3 once the votes had been counted, the successful candidate was Mabel 3Y.
Y4 also had some very close results with Khayanna 4C as their successful candidate.
Y5 has elected Athena Das 5H as our Eco Committee representative.
After a very close election, Avigya 6E was elected for Y6.
The Eco Committee members will be required to attend a series of meetings throughout the school year to discuss the Eco Status of the school and to give their ideas on how their section of the school is continuing to ensure that ĢƵ is a sustainable school.

Earth Day assembly
Our Eco Ambassadors prepared an exciting and engaging assembly to celebrate World Earth Day.
They presented to the rest of the Primary section to explain what World Earth Day is and why it is important to celebrate it.
‘Earth Day is an international event, which is celebrated on 22nd April. Earth Day is celebrated to raise awareness for our planet and its environmental challenges. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 and now over 1 billion people recognise Earth Day. Earth Day is an opportunity for everyone in this world to come together and help the planet become a better place.’
The Eco ambassadors also told us what they have already achieved and the events they are planning to hold. Look out for updates in the Yeti News!

The Ambassadors have also set some homework for the Primary School:

Easter
The primary students developed their understanding of the Easter story as part of their ongoing PSHRE learning in class this week. They heard the Easter story, developed their understanding of this festival through questioning, compared with other religious holidays and learnt about the symbolism associated with this Christian event. Afterwards, they created bookmarks inspired by the Easter story and the ways that Christians commemorate this special event in their calendar.
