We have had an outstanding week of learning at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and, as you will see below, internet safety has been a real focus for us. In an age where online information, misinformation and commentary is so readily available, it is more important than ever that we understand the power and pitfalls of the internet, including the digital footprint that even children leave behind. Enabling students with digital citizenship skills, is an important element of our ongoing programme and a vital area where parents can act as key role models.
We are very excited to be welcoming all students back on campus from Monday however I do urge you to be thoughtful about the ongoing risks of COVID in the coming weeks. As we are now seeing cases of the Omicron variant with much milder symptoms (e.g. headaches, sniffles etc.) parents need to be alert to cases which may pose a risk of transmission to others. Please do not send your child to school if they have any possible symptoms.
ÌýStay safe,
Caro Drumm
Principal

Scholarship 2022
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ wishes to offer the opportunity for new students to join our community by offering a scholarship to children who would not normally consider Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ as an option due to financial constraints. A-Level awards, an education at a world-class school such as Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and our co-curricular and additional support can also further students’ chances of gaining entry to their university of choice. Scholarships are for entry into the Sixth Form (equivalent to plus two) and are for the full duration of the two year A Level course, contingent on a positive approach to learning, community involvement and positive behavior. If you know of anyone in your community who would make the best of this opportunity, please do pass the details on.

Whole School Computer Science/ICT Spotlight
Tuesday the 8th of February was Safer Internet Day this year with the theme ‘All Fun and Games? Staying Safe Online’. Children in primary have been working on activities with their class on the following topics:
EYFS and KS1 have been reading a book called Troll Stinks! And looking at how being mean online can affect others. They used the drawing software Paintz to draw their own troll and sent a voice recording on SeeSaw of what he should do. You can see Aashna, Lilymaya and Adira’s trolls below:
Years 3 and 4 have been looking at digital balance and creating adverts and presentations on what you can do to find Digital Balance in your life. You can see below Eva and Nolah have been using Paintz to create their presentation videos, click them to watch.
And Valarie created a presentation using images and text that includes the important digital 5 a day.
Years 5 and 6 have been looking at Fake News and learning to question what they read, and find out if an article is true or not. They then went on to create their own ‘Tree Octopus’ images by layering images using photo editing programme Pixlr to show just how easy it is for anyone to fake an image. They did not disappoint, they created some amazing images.
In Year 6 Abaan has done a great job! And Lillian challenges herself to create something else – who said pigs can’t fly… above the himalayas?!
Saahiti in year 5 also did this amazing unicorn cat and Wafia proved that there are dragons in the mountains!
We have also had a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Safer internet superhero Competition which has had so many AMAZING entries, the finalists of each Key Stage have been judged by Mr Paul who teaches ICT in secondary who said it was such a hard decision. Runners up get 5 house points each, and prizes will be given to winners next week:

Secondary
Safer Internet Day is an annual celebration aiming to raise awareness of emerging online issues and concerns amongst young people, from cyberbullying and social networking to digital identity.
In a 30-minute Live session (in partnership with the UK Safer Internet Centre), we learned about how we can stay safe, responsible and wise in an increasingly digital world, with tips and advice from some of the biggest personalities on the web.
KS3 were also tasked with producing some posters helping to inform others on how to deal with trolls! As you can imagine, the standard was high (KS3 really know their stuff!). Below is a sample of what they had to offer.
Message from the Secondary Student Leaders
Head Prefects:
First of all, congratulations to our older students for a safe, successful return to campus. Our community has responded to the unforeseen challenges fantastically, and we are confident that it won’t be long till all of us can return to campus safely again!
The student leadership team recently had the opportunity to discuss our collective achievements so far as well as any plans in discussion for each of the areas, particularly if we could implement any of them online. Though we can’t disclose all of the details (we don’t want to ruin the fun!), we certainly have many exciting events and projects in plan, so definitely watch out for those in the upcoming weeks.
Sports prefects: This term we are hoping to organise a fun run within our school, however, we are waiting for an appropriate time where we can run this safely for all students. If the event cannot run this term, we will still aim to host this exciting event in Term 4. Fortunately, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ of Manila is organising a virtual fun run of sorts and has invited students to sign up and participate. Similar to the steps we did last year to walk up Everest, for this virtual fun run you will be able to record the distance you run. We would also like to encourage parents to take part in this activity as it is open for anyone who is a part of our school community and the schools/individuals who record the furthest distances will be eligible to win prizes too! We hope to be able to share even more information with you in the next couple of weeks.
Wellbeing Prefects: This month we have been busy planning upcoming events since we could not be in school. There will soon be a box on our campus where students can anonymously put in concerns or issues they would like the mentors to address. The box could also be used for suggestions to help improve the overall well-being of the school. Kindness Day is right around the corner so we’ve also been preparing for that.
Creative Arts Prefects: Keep an eye out for the Spring Showcase! Although there have been some delays due to the current context, we are very delighted to be finalising this project. It will be a video compilation of performances for you to enjoy. We are really excited to see all of the talented performers this time around.
We hope those of you that were able to make it back onto campus this week enjoyed being back in school.
Please remember to stay safe and continue taking precautions both inside and outside of school. We’ve seen some amazing examples of people following social distancing rules over the course of the week.
Have a great weekend everybody!
Under 10 Chess Champion
Well done to our Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Yeti, Laksh for securing second position in the Under10 category at the 16th National Level Annapurna Friendship Chess Competition. Congratulations!
Year 8 PAWs
Year 8 Have been working on Macbeth for their performance for the Shakespeare Festival!
We have two casts and all the characters have worked so hard so far.
We have made a lot of progress towards designing costumes and see – see our creativity below.
Shourya’s Character card of his role – King Duncan
Shaivee’s Character card of her role – one of the witches!
Indu’s character card of her role as Banquo.
We have also been designing costume, mood boards and sets for our show
This is Kashvi’s idea forn how to turn the English/ Science Courtyard into the highlands of Scotland!
This is Maya’s costume design for her role – Macbeth!
Finally, we have been learning about heraldry and family crests as part of our costume design and understanding of the context of our play. We have created our own family crests after learning more about the meanings behind the symbols. Look out for them in the show!
Here are some examples we did in class:
This is Reeya’s Herald – for the witches
This is Vivaan’s herald showing the duality of some of the characters
This is Ghazal’s Macbeth herald showing a mythical creature and a castle in which all the tragedy unfurls in the play.
