I would like to send my best wishes to all the members of our school community who celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr this week. We hope that you enjoyed your family festivities.
Please can we request that those of you who are ordering lunch from our caterers (Yellow Bambou or Khaja Ghar) do so in advance. This makes it easier for them to ensure they have enough food for everyone. It also helps things to go smoothly if you include the name and year group of the student when you make the online payment.
I had the great pleasure of going to Aahaldada Basic School in Dhading this week with some of our student representatives. Now that the construction has been completed, ĢƵ has handed over the new building to the school so that the students can start using it shortly for the new Nepali academic year. The building is a considerable improvement on the previous facilities and includes 4 classrooms which are well finished and include carpets, fans and whiteboards. Thank you to all the members of the ĢƵ community, past and present, who contributed to the construction of the school building. We wish the students many happy years of learning in their new building.

Primary News
SDG Entry Point Assembly.
This week, to begin our very exciting SDG topic, we were delighted to welcome Mr Basu Ray from the United Nations who works on a range of projects including within the Office for Disarmament Affairs. He explained in a child-friendly way the vital work they do and also explained how their work on peace and security also supports progress in several other SDG areas too. This was a wonderful way to begin our topic as it allowed the children to think about the ways the SDGs connect and how organisations are actively working towards achieving these important goals. Thank you so much for joining us Mr Basu Ray, and for sharing your knowledge with Key Stage One and Two.
Year 4, 5 and 6 Sports Day.
Wednesday marked the Year 4, 5 and 6 Sports Day which was a fun and action packed event, there were lots of excellent examples of sportspersonship and teamwork. The children participated in three events – Football, T-Ball and Field Events which included long jump and shot put. Throughout the children showed great sports skills, determination, resilience and excellent communication skills. The event culminated in an awards ceremony in the hall (the jingling of the numerous medals awarded could no doubt be heard many miles away!) Thank you to our PE and Sports team, site team and teaching staff for leading and supporting with such an exciting event.
Year 1,2 and 3 Sports Day.
The week ended with our lower primary classes taking part in their annual sports day. It was such a pleasure to see all of our younger students taking part with enthusiasm and showing their qualities of sportspersonship.
We look forward to sharing some images of the events next week.
Secondary News
Perhaps the highlight of this term will be the final week of term where we run curriculum enrichment week. For those parents who are new to the school this year, Enrichment Week is a fantastic way for us to round off the school year. Instead of a normal timetable students are allocated to one of a number of curriculum enrichment events. Full details can be found on the website and the week will include the secondary school play at the Mandala Theatre on Thursday Evening as well as the World Scholars competing in their Global Round in Kuala Lumpur.
End of Year Exams
In the secondary section we are preparing for end of year exams which start with the art practical exams next week. Also next week we will be briefing all Year 11-13 on the exam protocols and regulations to ensure that there is no malpractice in the exams. Year 7 – 10 will have internal end of year exams in each subject starting with Year 8 in weeks 6 & 7 and the other three year groups in weeks 7 & 8.
Exams can be a stressful time for students and Head of Academics, Ms Williams will be running a Parent Information Session next Thursday at 08:15 in the secondary library about how we as parents and carers can best support our child in exam season. This will be appropriate for all parents/carers from Year 7 upwards and not just for those taking external exams. If you are interested in attending this session, please complete .
If you are unable to attend next Thursday you may find the , “How can I help my child prepare for the challenges of the exam period?” with 10 top tips for parents useful reading! Please do contact us should you have any further questions on this matter.
School Attendance during school examination period
At ĢƵ we believe that students should have as much access to subject specialist support from their teachers as possible, so students will continue to attend lessons until Friday May 17th. For the majority of students, this will be part way through their exams, which enables us to monitor student progress and wellbeing as they start these assessments. Ahead of each examination, they will be given opportunities for structured independent revision in school. From the 20th of May, students will be expected to attend school only for scheduled examinations and any prearranged revision sessions teachers run.
Following the examinations, Years 11 and 12 will be invited back into school on the 17th of June for work experience week and bridging week respectively.
Down Syndrome Centre Visit, by Saivi Baidya (Year 9)
Many of the other Aspiring Leaders and I made a trip to the Down Syndrome Centre on Tuesday the 19th of March, where we got to meet and interact with many of the students that go there.
This was truly such an amazing and fulfilling opportunity, which helped us learn about how they live their daily lives to the fullest, despite all the challenging situations they face.
On the Thursday of that week, our DSSN friends came to our school, and we all chatted, danced, played sports, made bracelets and legos, and even gave them a tour of our wonderful ĢƵ campus!
The highlight for me was definitely when we played football with them on our secondary astro, as it was a great way of becoming closer to them and having fun at the same time!
Thank you to all of our DSSN friends and staff, and Ms. Smithers for making this all possible!
