It has been a real pleasure to be in school this week with so many fabulous events taking place. On Thursday I had the great pleasure of seeing the GCSE drama performances. The students did an outstanding job and we wish them the very best in their exams.
We also welcomed parents into school this week to support our careers carousel. Our students greatly benefitted from hearing about the professions that our community members have trained in and I am looking forward to seeing how this information helps form their career goals as they move forward.
On Saturday we held our 2nd Annual School Nurses Conference. Schools from the Kathmandu Valley and beyond sent representatives to ĢƵ to engage in professional training, networking and information sharing with respected professionals in the medical field. Huge thanks go to our Ms Pabitra Deula, one of our school nurses, for organising this event so diligently and to the sponsors who supported it.
We are delighted to be taking part in the Nissa finals this weekend and we hope to see some of you there cheering on the ĢƵ teams.

Primary News
Last Friday, Year 2 Presented their wonderful English learning. They confidently presented both a poem that they had learnt, and some of their own writing. It was a pleasure to listen to them presented with expression and confidence to the whole primary and their parents. Well done Year 2!
Next week marks the start of exciting and engaging activities to celebrate World Book Day on 7th March. As you know, reading for pleasure is strongly encouraged here at ĢƵ, and our book celebrations are a way to further develop this in all our students. Our English team have created a thrilling timetable and range of activities for our primary students to take part in, including a book swap and opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character which will be showcased in a parade around school on Thursday morning. We will also have guest authors reading to the children over the week, and lots of opportunities to develop an even greater love of reading!
As well as exciting World Book Week activities, on Friday 8th March we will be celebrating International Women’s day alongside Secondary. The children are invited to wear purple on this day, the colour of International Women’s day, and they will be able to write messages of thanks to the inspirational and amazing women in their lives. We are looking forward to hearing about the powerful women who make a difference to our children.
Community News
On Thursday the 29th of February, our Primary and Early Years teachers facilitated a number of workshops for visiting ECEC students from Pokhara and out of the valley before their graduation tomorrow. It is such a pleasure for us to facilitate not only the learning of our own students but also the development of a new generation of educators.
Secondary News
Flowing Forward Festival, Lincoln School, Saturday
Seven ĢƵ students, from the Zonta Club, represented the school at the Lincoln College PLUM Society Flowing Forward Festival promoting women’s menstrual health. Our students were wonderful ambassadors for the school. Dia, Shivani and Raghavi led a superb session showcasing the work they have done at ĢƵ on promoting women’s health including various fund-raising activities for sanctuary products for our partner schools, the ĢƵ flowing forward festival run last year and the current initiative to raise awareness of the classification of women’s sanitary products as luxury items for the the purpose of VAT. In the workshops they were not leading ĢƵ students took the lead in asking questions and summarising group discussions, as well as providing all four performances the opening and closing lectures. It was wonderful to see how confident, passionate and articulate ĢƵ students can be.
Careers Carousel
Thank you to all the parents and other members of the community who helped facilitate this year’s careers event. Following a speed-dating type format year 9 and year 11 had the opportunity to visit the 15 careers stalls ranging including: medicine, actuarial work, architecture, programming, marine biology and disaster relief planning. Year 12 and 13 came for a drop in style session during their lunch break. It was a really great opportunity for students and the feedback from them was very positive.
Prefects’ Ball
The school hall was transformed on Thursday evening for the annual prefects winter ball. The sixth form students donned their black tie, suits and ball gowns to enjoy an evening of music, dinner and open mic karaoke and even a prom king and queen!
NISSA Sports
The girls have completed their undefeated league season with two more comfortable wins against RGS and GEMS this week. The boys played with great commitment, determination and no little skill as they gave RBS their toughest match of the season so far. Both boys and girls teams play in the finals this Saturday and we wish them both well as they seek to finish the sports season with trophy winning performances.
GCSE Drama Exam
The Year 11 Drama had their final practical assessment today with the three plays performance to an audience of peers and teachers after school on Thursday. They have now completed 60% of their GCSE. Congratulations to all involved for such passionate performances.
World Book Day
There is an exciting programme of events planned for world book day. Be ready to help with costumes for the start of the day “dress as a famous book character” fashion show; for your child to bring a book they no longer want to swap for one they would like to read in the break time book swap; and to bring some money to buy a new book from the book stall at lunchtime. There will be a “find the teachers’ favourite book” treasure hunt running through as the day and house points for “getting caught reading”. Thanks to the Library and English teams for organising this event.

On Saturday, a group of members from Z-Club at ĢƵ attended an event hosted by Lincoln regarding Menstruation. It was a great experience where the group represented ĢƵ in a great manner. Saishree and Raghavi sang to open and close the ceremony, where SIvani recited a poem and Dia an anecdote. Dia, Sivani and Raghavi also hosted a student-led workshop at Lincoln for all of the six schools that attended.
