Student Clothes Swap
Our Eco Ambassadors will be holding a clothes swap! On Tuesday 18th March for Primary and on Wednesday 19th March for Secondary. They are inviting students to bring pre-loved clothes to school from Monday to Friday next week to swap. There will be a drop box at the front gate. Please remember that any items dropped to swap should be of good quality and in good condition so that their new owner can wear them.
As well as credit for donating clothes, children can select items to take home with them for a small charge. This will ensure that we reuse clothing to reduce the impact fast fashion has on our environment & the money raised will be used for funding for Eco projects such as additional water stations and recycling bins to improve the Eco status of our school.
Primary & Early Years News
Primary and Early Years have had a fantastic week celebrating all things books! The children have participated in a number of activities including an author visit, a fashion show and a reading relay during which the teachers had to run around the playground causing lots of hilarity!
We were thrilled to host a virtual author visit with the talented author and storyteller, Sally Pomme Clayton. She captivated our EYFS, KS1, and Year 3 students with the engaging story of The King with Dirty Feet, using an array of props and sound effects to bring the tale to life. The children were completely immersed in the story, their eyes wide with wonder as Sally brought each character and scene to vibrant life. For our Year 4, 5, and 6 students, she shared the intriguing Prince of Persia, weaving a narrative that held their attention from start to finish. The session was made even more special as our friends from KISC joined in, making it even more exciting. The children asked insightful questions about storytelling and the life of an author, reflecting the inspiration sparked by Sally’s visit. It was an unforgettable experience, full of creativity, learning, and connection!
On Thursday the whole school had a 15 minute ‘Drop Everything And Read’ session. Ms Gradden announced on the tannoy that everybody including the guards, ground staff, admin and all of the secondary school had to stop everything they were doing and read! The whole campus was absolutely silent as everyone was engrossed in their books!
You can read the day’s highlights from each year group here:
EYFS:
The Early Years children have had a fun-filled week celebrating World Book Week! They especially enjoyed their buddy reading session with 6W on Monday where they had the opportunity to listen to a dinosaur related story followed by playing a range of dinosaur-related games and completing dinosaur-themed activities. The children also had lots of fun on Thursday when they dressed up in their Book Day outfits and participated in the parade. They eagerly joined in with all the different activities during the day and were delighted that they listened to 4 stories read by 12 different teachers during the reading relay!
Year 1:
Year 1 had an exciting time celebrating World Book Day, taking part in a variety of fun activities that brought stories to life! They enjoyed a thrilling Reading Relay, where teachers dashed from class to class, each reading two minutes of a story before racing to the next room when the bell rang. The children also got creative by designing their own book covers for their stories and revisiting old favorites from this term, engaging in fun, themed activities inspired by these books.
A highlight of the day was “Drop Everything and Read”, where, at any moment, Ms. Gradden’s voice boomed over the tannoy: “STOP and read!” The children loved the urgency, quickly grabbing a book and immersing themselves in a story on the spot.
To top it all off, the costume parade was a fantastic spectacle, with the whole school showing off their wonderful outfits, making it a truly magical celebration of reading!
Year 2:
Year 2 had so much fun celebrating World Book Week! They particularly enjoyed our special dress-up day with a fabulous fashion show and an extremely energetic teacher’s reading relay! They also had a brilliant time writing some wonderfully imaginative class stories, buddy reading with Year 4, and being read to by a special guest Secondary teacher. They also flexed their artistic muscles and took part in the door decorating competition! They made some beautiful origami butterflies, frogs and lilypads to dress up our door in the theme of our current class book, ‘Tadpole’s Promise’.
Year 3:
Year 3 had a brilliant Book Week full of creativity and excitement! The students looked amazing in their imaginative costumes, showcasing their favorite book characters. They also had the opportunity to share stories with Miss Lee and Mr. Palmer from secondary, adding a fun cross-school connection. The virtual author visit with KISC students was another highlight, sparking inspiration and sparking curiosity about storytelling. The fashion show was a big hit, with students proudly displaying their book-inspired outfits. To top it all off, Year 3 students decorated their classroom doors based on books they’ve read recently, transforming the space into a vibrant celebration of literature!
Year 4:
Year 4 had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week, filled with creativity, excitement, and a love for reading! One of the biggest highlights for our year group was the fantastic fashion show, where students proudly showcased their book character costumes, bringing their favorite stories to life. The energy continued with the amazing “Reading Relay,” where teachers dashed from class to class, sharing stories while students cheered them on.
Adding to the fun, Year 4 got creative with their classroom door display, transforming it into a spectacular Viking Voyagers scene. This hands-on project let them dive into history and storytelling in a unique and artistic way.The children also enjoyed reading with their year 2 buddies sharing their love for reading with each other.
Year 5:
This year we all had an extraordinary Book Week! To start off the week, we planned a class story to get into the book spirit.
Over the course of the week, we gave books for sale and tried to bring in as many as we could that were still in good condition and usable enough to read. It was very hard to find books in good condition, especially in our houses!
We also decorated our class doors based on the books we have read so far this year. 5H’s door looks fabulous, filled with all the characters and settings from The Odyssey. 5M’s door looks amazing as they based it on a book called Cosmic.
We also had a visit from an author who read us a great story about The Firebird. On this occasion, we were joined by another school to listen.
On Thursday, everyone dressed up in their costumes. We had a fashion show which showcased everyone’s brilliant costumes. Seeing all the different book characters come to life was very fun. On the same day, we played a game called ‘Book Relay’. Basically, the teachers ran and tried to read as much as possible in a short amount of time.
This year has been very exciting as they added more activities and fun events! It was a super fun week!

Year 6:
Our Year 6 students kicked off the week by planning engaging activities for the Early Years and Year 1 students, connecting their learning to current topics. The oldest Primary students had a fantastic time working together with the youngest, fostering a love for storytelling and discovery. This year, we combined our Year 6 Book Week celebrations with our new IPC topic, 900 CE, and the epic tale of Beowulf, which we will explore in our English lessons. On Book Day, both students and teachers embraced history by dressing up as influential figures from the past. Take a look at our group photos—can you spot some of history’s greatest change-makers?

English and Literature parents information session
A level student Brishti started our session with her analysis of the poems her class is studying at the moment, giving us all an insight into how ĢƵ students are taught to analyse a piece of literature. Head of faculty Mr Johnstone us talked through the English and Literacy curriculum. The session ended with an overview of the Accelerated Reader programme and some parents taking advantage of our resources to borrow some books for their own recreational reading!
