It has been an exciting week for many of our students at ĢƵ. Outdoor education plays a vital role in the holistic development of our students at ĢƵ, extending learning far beyond the classroom. Through a carefully designed programme that includes Expeditions, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and Forest School, we provide meaningful opportunities for children to build resilience, independence and confidence. Yesterday our Y1 and Y2 children participated in that journey by sleeping over in school at Camp ĢƵ.
Expeditions challenge students to step outside their comfort zones, developing teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills in real-world contexts. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award further supports this growth, encouraging perseverance, service and personal achievement, while fostering a strong sense of responsibility and self-discipline. Today our Bronze D of E overnight expedition set off and we wish them the very best on this adventurous activity.
These experiences are not simply add-ons; they are integral to our educational philosophy. They support physical wellbeing, strengthen social connections and promote emotional development. Most importantly, they help shape well-rounded individuals who are confident in engaging positively with the challenges of the future. We are proud of the rich outdoor education opportunities we provide and the lasting impact they have on our students.

Design and Tech
Year 10 Product Designers have been working on designing and making lamps based on endangered animals of Nepal. Students were taught how to communicate their ideas on paper, model in card and use 2D and 3D CAD softwares in order to use the 3D printer and laser cutter. Students have also learnt the importance of accuracy and using hand tools to produce high quality, well thought out products. All the lamps are now complete and students have learnt valuable skills to take them through to their GCSE coursework where they will work on a personal project to design and make something in an area that interests them.
Idhant in Year 12 was given a more open lighting brief but has elevated his design by incorporating advanced techniques, including laser-cut stained glass elements, 3D scanning clay models which were then 3D printed, and hand-assembling the final components. The project has focused on building upon the skills developed at GCSE, particularly in plastics and timber processing, in order to further develop the technical competencies required for his A Level major project.

Women in STEAM Assembly
By: Luveena (year 9) and Vedansee (year 8)
On Wednesday the 25th of March, there was an assembly in honor of Women’s International Week. The assembly was about Women in STEAM where 4 of our ĢƵ teachers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) were invited to the stage for an interview about their journey, and how students today can achieve a career in STEAM. All the teachers answered the questions with enthusiasm, interest and a great passion for what they do. The entire assembly was a great way of appreciating our women in STEAM.
“I really enjoyed seeing how empowered my Zonta members felt asking important questions about working in STEAM as a woman, I also felt super proud of our community in school participating in celebrating International Women’s week.”– Ms Idriss
“I felt nervous about doing the assembly but I thought it was a really important message and I am hoping that next year we can have more women in STEAM getting involved, especially the arts teachers.”– Ms Thompson
A huge thank you to all the teachers and Zonta members who worked together to make this happen and a great appreciation of all the women in our community.

Year 1 and 2 Camp ĢƵ – A Memorable Adventure
On Thursday, our Year 1 and Year 2 students enjoyed a wonderful start to their Camp ĢƵ experience with a day trip to Dirty Duck, an outdoor centre and farm. The day was filled with engaging and enriching activities, beginning with a nature hike where the children learned about a variety of plants and their uses, and even had the opportunity to plant their own flowers.
The children also met a range of farmyard animals, discovering many fun and interesting facts along the way. Throughout the day, they took part in a variety of games that encouraged teamwork, resilience and cooperation, making it a truly memorable outdoor learning experience.
Back at school, the fun continued with more games, followed by a special ĢƵ library cinema experience, which was a perfect way to relax and wind down before bedtime after such an exciting day.
We were incredibly proud of all the children, who were wonderfully behaved throughout and demonstrated a wide range of learning powers in their choices, including collaboration, curiosity, independence and perseverance.
We hope this experience will be remembered as one of the highlights of their time at school, and we look forward to many more shared adventures in the future!
English Parents Information Session
This week we held a parent information session to support families in helping their children with reading at home. We talked about how reading develops across the primary years, from early phonics through to fluent reading and deeper understanding, and what to expect at each stage. Parents were given practical ideas to support reading at home, including building regular routines, talking about books, and encouraging reading for enjoyment. We also shared tips for supporting children who may find reading more challenging, particularly with decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension, as well as ways to stretch more confident readers. Overall, the session focused on simple, effective ways to build children’s confidence and enjoyment in reading.
EYFS Sports Day
On Tuesday, our Early Years students set sail for an unforgettable pirate themed Sports Day! The children threw themselves into the spirit of the day, challenging themselves and showing excellent progression of skills across an exciting range of activities. It was wonderful to see so many parents joining in the fun for the pirate dance, which was a highlight for everyone! The costumes worn by both children and teachers were absolutely fantastic, adding to the wonderful atmosphere and making for a truly memorable morning. A brilliant day all round, and a real showcase of what our Early Years have achieved this year so far!
Year 3 Assembly: Vanishing Rainforests
Year 3 delivered a thoughtful and engaging assembly based on their recent IPC topic,“Vanishing Rainforests.”Through a short and lively skit, the children took the audience on a journey through the rainforest, bringing their learning to life with confidence and creativity.
They clearly explained the different layers of the rainforest and shared important messages about the dangers these ecosystems face. The children also encouraged everyone to think about how we can help protect our planet through small but meaningful actions.
The performance was made even more memorable with a powerful chant, followed by a heartfelt finale of their“I Am the Earth”song. It was a wonderful showcase of both their learning and their growing awareness of environmental responsibility.
